To the Soul that Lacks Motivation…

Do you ever wonder what’s the factor that stands in your way… why you can never seem to get to the other side of an idea or goal?

It’s different for everyone!

In my unprofessional opinion: E V E R Y O N E has motivation….

The motivation is almost always there! Check out this definition of motivation:

Everyone seems to have a reason or desire behind a goal. We all want to be skinnier, be bigger, more fit, start a successful business, take the first step, start a new career, or embark on some new journey, etc. However, the action behind that motivation is what people seem to lack.

We all want results, we all want to take action, but there is something that stops us somewhere between the stages of desire and action….

So follow me here:

  1. It’s the start of a new month, right? November 1, the first is on a Sunday. Perfect time to be brand new because why wait until the new year!!
  2. We plan our new goal: our goal is to launch a business, start a blog site, start a new fitness or lifestyle change/journey, be more positive, do something different in general.
  3. We plan our steps of action: what we want, how we’re going to get there, what we’re going to wear, what time we can do it, whatever else! We plan everything out and have so many ideas because we’re so excited!
  4. We realize that it costs money to do some of these things, we realize it takes time away from other things, we realize it takes more effort than we thought, we realize that the kids have practice in the afternoons and other activities that you have to attend, we realize that we wont be able to do this or that because of this or that reason…
  5. We say, “forget it. I’ll have to wait until (insert some point in the future that will probably never happen).
  6. Our goals and dreams never get fulfilled

How about this: Don’t let those doubts and reasons of  why not become road blocks for you. TEAR THEM DOWN.

Doubts, fears, laziness, or the lack of self-efficacy (confidence in the ability to exert control over one’s own motivation) are what hold us back.

This may be a hard post to read because I’m being harsh. I’m being harsh on myself and you! Because I’ve been lazy! I’ve lacked confidence in my own abilities! I’ve listed every reason why I can’t do something and I have kept myself from progressing in some aspects.

I want to be fit, look fit, feel fit. I want to work toward some goals and be more disciplined in my day to day, but for the past few months, I’ve been lazy. I’ve been doing the minimum. I mean look at me, I haven’t done a blog post in like 3 weeks! Horrible!!! Yes, I’ve been studying and focusing my energy elsewhere, but since I took my test, I’ve done nothing lol.

But you know what? I acknowledge that I’ve been slacking. Where I am today is a result of all the things I’ve done or haven’t done in the past. So you know what? I need to make changes so that months from now, I’m not having this same conversation with myself.

Reassess. Is it the motivation you lack or is it the self-efficacy you lack? Are you being lazy or is it truly circumstances of your life that are standing in the way of you reaching your goals? Really sit back and think about this.

Acknowledge that you’ve done the best you could with what you had. You can’t go back and change the past. Change starts today (if you allow it). Picture who you want to be and list the steps you need to take to get there. It doesn’t have to be big steps, small steps get you there too!

Fight for yourself like you fight for your kids and loved ones. Fight for yourself like you fight for that project at work.  You are worthy of success too.
